I've noticed Art Scott spreading the word about Kelby's Digital Photography Series of books.

I've bought every one of these when they came out and they have been GREAT. After reading the first book several years ago, I immediately bought a copy for all my friends and family who own an SLR as a Christmas gift. I recommend all 3 because the build on each other.

These books are relatively cheap $10-$20 and actually have information everyone can use. If you are a beginner or a pro, you will find these books are full of amazing tips and tricks without being technical.

They cover all areas including:
* Weddings
* Portraits
* Sports
* Landscape
* Travel
* Underwater
* Macro
* Product Photography
* Food

and so much more.

Ok. yeah that sounds like an ad... sorry. I am in no way affiliated with Scott Kelby or Art Scott. I just really like these books and feel anyone on these forums should also have them.

I'm open to other book suggestions. The Amherst books have all been a waste so far.

    I enjoy his books as well, have several of them, but "selfless sharing of his photography knowledge"??? Last I recall, I paid for those books, and he pocketed some profit. ;)

    Better than most, Kelby has found a way to earn money from just about every angle of photography training (online, books, seminars, tv shows, etc). Kudos to him. Now if he donated the profits to charity, that would be selfless. lol.

    Chrisdg, I see where you're coming from on the financial angle. HOWEVER . .

    I'm new to photography and I'm trying to learn about photography by reading this forum and reading books. (I haven't been able to find a photography class in my city.) I've read a few other beginning photography books and not one of them covered subjects like printers, or papers, or monitor calibrators, or gave a list of photography gear they use, etc. Kelby does.

    There was a discussion on this forum fairly recently about how some photographers don't want to share their secrets and I suppose in light of this, I'm grateful that there's a few who are willing to share their tips and techniques, even if I have to pay for them.
