I have learned so much since joining Dgrin and this forum that when I see an obituary in the NYTimes for a photographer, I have to read it. In this case, Roy DeCarava. I am always so humbled by and in awe of those that are truly the Greats in this medium.

I am a big fan of this guy’s work. If you’re interested in people photography or in street photography, check out Roy DeCarava’s work. It doesn’t get much better. He was a b&w craftsman. He shot memorable photos of jazz musicians and of life in Harlem. It’s very emotional work. He is one of the greatest photographers this city has ever produced. If you’re interested, I recommend Roy DeCarava – A Retrospective (MOMA) with an excellent introduction by Peter Galassi.

I don't want the cheese, I just want to get out of the trap.
