Help needed - Webpage basics

I am not well versed in javascript or html languages (I can speak a little spanish and french:D ). I want to upgrade to a Pro account and be able to customize the way my home page looks.
My questions are:
Do I need to know java or html to do this or is there some rudimentary interface that will let me do simple things?
Can I use Microsoft Word or something similar to do the layout and upload that for my homepage?

You don't have to know it completely, HTML 101 will do, but you still need to know what the tags are and whatnot, otherwise you'll end up with a broken page..
You can use MS FrontPage..:-) Still you need to know basics... I mean - if you want to make some reasonable changes..
The other way around - hire a wiz kid from a nearby high school, he'll make it for ya..

I often find myself using the notepad to copy html and css down and then paste them into my cobranding page but you won't be able to build a page graphically in word (or any other similar program) and simply upload it to smugmug.
Here are some references for you about html and css (which is really all you'll need):

This looks like great stuff. I'll have to do some studying. Thanks for the help.

A lot of people who know no HTML at all customize with that page.
Thanks,

Wow. Five years really flies by. I give dreamweaver a big thumbs down in general and for doing SmugMug customizing it is really awful. FWIW
