Last week friday I went back to puffin Island (Inner Farne, Northumbria) and did get some puffins into my lens.
I wondered if the pics were going to be sharp and have puffins in it, because they move so fast.
I got some, using my 70-300 Sigma lens. The first puffin to the right has little fishes in his mouth, I only saw that when I looked at the picture on my computer.
Thanks for looking and any comment welcome (I am more or less new to bird shots, certainly moving birds... grin)

These are very fast birds, indeed - and much smaller than most people think. You did well to get this good a shot!

Hi there Photocat ........ those Puffins are amazing aren't they, have to confess but years ago the only pictures I ever saw of those things were with them just standing, or close-up shots of just their upper body and head..... I thought they were some kind of Penguin rolleyes1.gif
They have amazing faces don't they......how lucky are you to be able to even be where they are to photograph them........good for you girl!

Which I could find some here. They seem to be pigs though :D I mean whenever I've seen shots (good ones like yours) they always seem to have at least 3 fisheys in the beaks :lol

JMO but maybe you could crop a little more from the top headscratch.gif

I will try to crop more to get a more powerful image. They eat a lot, one can only imagine how much fish they find to feed this whole colony. I was surprised too to find how small they really are, just like others fooled by the macro views we often get from them.
We also had to wear hats, because the turns have chicks now, and they attack the visitors. I had one picking my head (I forgot my hat in the car on the mainland) and it did hurt.
A friend gave me a hat, felt much better.
This is one of the birds in attack mode... wings back and beak forward...
