I've tested Canon 580EX for light spill, white card frame coverage and direct frame coverage:

Truly even frame coverage starts from 50mm flash zoom setting...

Interestingly, there is more light spills off of the narrow sides (rather than the wide ones).
My measurements show about 1/2 stop difference... Good to know when using a bounce card.
