I went down to the casinos to try my hand at night photography. This is what I came up with. I shot this free hand though, will be buying a tripod very soon.

Yes, if you're going to do low light stuff you definitely need a decent tripod. This way you can use low ISOs to avoid noise and still end up with a sharp image (long shutter speeds and handheld don't mix well).
As for the shot, I like the composition. I agree with Al that you could crop out the foreground a little.
