Nice shot, Sara.. Looks nicely finished as well.. Goes to show that you can get something decent to start with out of a mobile..

    Surprised me, too. Thanks.

The only problem I'm having is, it's a total pain, sending the images to my e-mail, as I have to tap-tap-tap every letter and symbol for every image. Tedious. Unless someone knows a better way?
It's a Motorola (yeah, now we'll have to have a whole new forum for cell-phone how-to, something akin to digital darkroom gear - tee hee).

If you have a google voice number you can text (MMS) it to that.

I think it should stay there under "sent" if you already sent it to yourself. Also on my phone, even without saving it, I start typing in my address and it just pops up without me finishing--

Also on my phone I can save my addresses under contacts--but every phone is different.

You are not using a rotary phone are you?rolleyes1.gif Sorry---I had to.

I have my e-mail address saved with my phone #, but it doesn't auto-enter, nor have I found a way to access it, in options. The only thing I've found, so far is typing it in each time. I may stop in at the Verizon store, around the corner, see if they know anything.

I'm reading about google voice -

I guess I have to say I'm in at this stage as I've been experimenting with the phone now for a couple of days. I have no problem getting close with my normal camera but interestingly I feel much more like a voyeur holding a phone in someone's space. So I'm practicing my best dumb tourist look. I've gotten the dumb part down pat!

Well you are a curmudgeon, aren't you? As already noted, you can use a disposable camera from the drugstore (if they still exist.) Or upgrade your phone (probably free.) And you know what? You'll still be able to make phone calls, either way.

On the other hand, I do understand that it will spoil the curmudgeonly sport of the thing for you.

    OK - Got It
I stopped by the Verizon store today.
Yes, my e-mail is stored w/my phone #. When I send the image it gives me the option of sending it to one of my contacts. I just wasn't going far enough - one more click and my stored e-mail address pops up.

    Thanks for the replies.

I emailed myself the photos and then saved them to my computer--then tried to save them to smugmug, but it won't let me "errors, file not recognized, are you interested in purchasing a vault?" type msgs.

How did you guys do it?

I have an email to smugmug support too just in case.

Do you know what type of file the image is? Is it jpeg, gif, tiff, psd, etc?

    Thanks Travis,
ok I don't know, but when I opened it up, I had it titled "Math" and it says "Math.bmp" don't know what the bmp means. Also it's opened under my computer's Windows Picture/Fax Viewer.

I also saved it this way "Math.zip" however when I went to smugmug and tried to find it, it's not even visible at all, can't locate it, can only locate the "math.bmp" and it actually allows me to browse and find it.

Here is what the screen said:

    Liz,
BMP is a bit-mapped file. Unfortunately, SmugMug doesn't support BMP. However, if you upload the images to your computer first, Photoshop and many other programs can convert them to .JPG.

Ok, gotcha. Smugmug doesn't allow .BMP uploads except to a SmugVault account. That's why you got the bad file type error.

The real question is why you got a .BMP file from your camera. Can you look at Math.bmp on your computer and verify that it is, in fact, the photo you took? If it is then convert the .bmp to a .jpg and upload it to SmugMug. There are several online services that convert files for you. The first Google hit I got was for Zamar. I hope that helps!

I have never used it, but Picasa does support .BMP, so perhaps you can use it to convert to .JPG. ne_nau.gif It's free, so check it out.

BTW, for the future, does your cell camera give you the choice of saving in anything other than .BMP? Check the configuration menu. It's probably too late to do anything about the pics you already have taken.

I open the BMP in Windows "Paint" and then save it as a Jpeg
    if this helps.

Right, that should work. Could somebody post the Mac equivalent? Thx.

BlackBerrys save images as JPEG. My guess is you operator is conveniently converting it into a format you don't want. The operator is probably down sampling the image too since Windows bitmap (BMP) is a lossless format. A full sized BMP image will be MUCH larger on disk than the same sized JPEG image.

If you connect the phone to your computer with the USB cable that came with the phone you can mount the phone's disk as another drive. Then just drag the JPEG files to computer's hard disk. Windows may even ask if you'd like to import the images from your phone once it notices the phone has been connected.

Personally I mount my phone's disk on my Mac and import the images directly from the phone into Aperture.

Aaah, good to know. Now to find that USB cable I never used before.
That will make it easier for the future.
