How to use Smugmug to allow cients to select proofs online?

Does anybody have any guidance on how to best allow a cilent to select proofs from a gallery in smugmug? The solution isn't obvious to me.

The only options that come to mind are:

Having the client give me the image number to include or exclude (this would suck if i they had to pick 200 out of 1000 proofs)

Commenting on the photos they like or dislike but this gets annoying because I'd need to go through each file and read the comments.

Photorank is not an option if i'm not mistaken because I can't quickly filter for ranking for an individual gallery.

I have the same problem and I'm interested in any ideas as well. And I agree with both your concerns.

apparently, the way to get this fixed is to voice you needs.. go vote on this feature asap... it's 4th. use 3 votes on it and max it out... PROs need this!!!! spread the word

and the few ahead of it are already in the works. here's what's surprising, obviously only PROs care about this feature. So it probably won't get as much love as potentially other features. PROs ought to have extra votes for feature requests since we pay more.

This is likely later in the process than you are hoping for, but are you aware of the PROOF DAYS feature of the Pro account? This allows a client to order a proof, but then gives you up to 7 days to process and replace the selected images before they go to print. You get notified of each proof they select, and you react accordingly. However, I suspect you want a similar tagging feature that doesnt involve the shopping cart.

Yes, I'm aware of the proof delay process. But that assumes that clients only want to print and are willing to print w/o seeing the images fully processed. You are correct, the proof delay is for much later in the workflow

The problem is, there are many other applications for this feature other than just retouching & replacing what they'd want to order.

Some may use this feature to create an actual album for clients to share with others. Some may use this feature to determine what to actually further post process because not every photog will post 100% of their images. I'm sure there are more potential uses...
