doubting myself

I have been hanging out here for a little over a year. I have posted some photos but mostly lurk. i started out doing some portrait sessions for my family and loved it. I then was able to shadow and second shoot some weddings with a local photographer in my area. From there I have branched out on my own. I have recently seen a lot of threads pop up on here about people calling themselves a pros that shouldn't and it has me second guessing myself. I have always had happy clients and I have work really hard to learn my camera, but I guess i'm asking the pros out there if they wouldn't mind letting me know what they think and please be honest!!!

This is a recent session I did with a couple who is celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary. They never had a wedding photographer so they hired me to do a shoot. This is her wedding dress that she wore 15 years ago. They have 6 kids and I really wanted to portray where they were and what they have become. This was the first time I have tried something like the first shot and I love it! What do you think? I included some more of my favorites from the session, that I believe is pretty normal work for me.

that 1st shot is technically good but it is just AWESOME in the idea. Love it!thumb.gifthumb.gif

The other shots are well exposed, I think they are in focus (would like to see larger sizes), well framed, and well processed. That is no small thing. If this is indeed you baseline work (do you have gallery we can peek at?) then you are decent pro imo.

The line for me is can you deliver this qaulity consistently? A good ameteur can eeek out pro level shots on occasion..it's when the shots become consistently good enough that you can deliver a 300+ set that you cross into "professional" qaulity in my eyes.

oh and i hate posting big because the only way I know how to post is using flickr and they always seem to ruin the picture. Sorry.... I did it once and even though I had printed the picture I posted in an 20x30 with no problem the pic looked horrible in the thread! I probably don't have a setting right somewhere but I have never got into it to look and see... lol:D

    Nothing wrong with these.
The second one has a bit of an awkward crop, less ground and more trees would have worked better at least to my eye.
If the rest of your stuff is like this.....don't doubt yourself.

If you want a constructively honest critique, post it to The Refinery - you'll learn a lot there.

Number One sets my brain afire! Such a unique and energetic feeling, but the couple...they seem to have eyes for only each other...

    I LOVE it...

I just took a look at your website. You have a lot of very creative and technically proficient shots!!! I think sometimes people get hung up on the "pro" label. If you can make a client happy and capture the essence of the moment, they pay you, and your having fun and enjoying yourself, then you are a photographer. thumb.gif
