There were some great shots this round with a bunch of them that were close calls. But in the end, here are the results...
Honorable mentions (in no particular order):
The Colosseum of Rome by nightpixels
Nice rich colors and a classic subject
The Palladian Bridge & Gothic Temple, Stowe Landscape Gardens by AndMan
Great stone work and the B&W works well
Castillo de la Real Fuerza - Havana, Cuba by anonymouscuban
Calm water with a great reflection. Makes me want to exlore it
The Winners
3rd Place:
Golden Disney by BeachBill
Great shapes and curves at a great time of day
2nd Place:
By DsrtVW
Deep colors and a great feel of texture
1st Place:
The inertia of ruins, Tarut by NeilL
Interesting light, texture, and colors. I just want to know more about this shot and place
Congratulations to NeilL for his photo. I can't wait to see what subject he chooses and get back to participating. :thumb

Congrats to the top shooters in this one. Terrific field. I don't know how you narrowed it down!

When you come to a door... walk through it.
If it's locked... find an open window.
Thanks, too, to all the other entrants for making this challenge so enjoyable. thumb
This was totally unexpected, and so I'm a bit lost for words ATM!
Along with sdways01"s choices, I'd like to acknowledge my admiration for some other entrants' work:
ghinson for those iconic images
lizzard_nyc for a fine example of minimalism
Randy Brogen for images with breath-taking scope
shatch for his quirky colorism which I enjoy
esc2476 for exemplary framing for scale and impact
Now, I feel the weight of responsibility for the next challenge settling on my shoulders, so I'll go gather some strength to bear it, and hopefully come up with a topic which excites you all!
Great thing, these mini-challenges!

Spread the love! Go comment on something!
It was fun to see everyone's interpretation of the challenge, and I look forward to the next one.
I have to say, what I like about these mini-challenges, compared to the main challenges, is these are more purely photographic. Why is it that when we have an open challenge that is not tied to a two-week time frame, that everyone presents simple photos, and when we have the regular challenges, you're more likely to see highly processed images or digital composites? I haven't been here that long, so I could be wrong, but this is my impression, and might be why I'm enjoying these challenges so much.

I definitely agree. The only time I feel I have a chance in those other challenges is when they are SOOC.

CONGRATULATIONS! NeiL that shot is so full of texture that I am drooling.

Thanks to Adam for the HM, given the standard of the entries I really do feel honoured.
