Sigma doe not make a 17-300.....however they do make the 18-200 and 18-250.........this LINK ..... will take you to the SIGMA LENSES LIST PAGE ........

I would for an all around lens suggest the 18-250....might as well get a ll the reach you can....

I am unfamiliar with a Sigma 17-300mm lens. Could you mean the new Sigma 70-300mm, F4-5.6 DG OS? If so I haven't seen any tests but I think it could be slightly less compromised in complex distortions over the Sigma 18-200mm, f3.5-6.3 DC OS, but obviously is intended for different use.

My own suggestion, and what I do myself, is to use 2 lenses to cover that range.

What I chose, for Canon crop 1.6x camera applications, is:

    Canon EF-S 17-55mm, f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm, f/4L IS USM

I add a Canon 1.4x teleconverter to extend the range of the longer zoom and I am still pretty happy with the image quality.

While this is part of a "travel kit", I use the same lenses for some paying event work as well.
