yes, I dropped my 24-105 and it left a nice Scratch all the way across the uv filter, that is why they are on there right. So I went to buy a uv filter on amazon, is there that much difference in uv filters? how are tiffen and sunpak filters? any recommendations? :dunno

I moved this to the Accessories forum.

In my testing, yes, there is a difference. I use primarily Hoya HMC filters, but I also have one B+W multi-coated filter. Either are very good and have minimal effect on color, contrast and sharpness.

BTW, 2filter.com have fair prices and good information.

I concur, but can't really vouch for 2filter.com yet. iloveyou.gif Maybe later this week.

Just be careful, about the purest when asking that, "filters are the last thing you should use on you expensive glass... blah blah blah"
Filters have saved my butt more than once.

I personally recommend Hoya HD glass and Nikon neutral color filter.

Hoya HMC saves my Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR rental. An BB shoot it mwink.gif

I wish I had got here earlier. I never use UVs, I only use the clear filters for protection. Also they are generally less expensive.
    I shoot therefore Iam.

A couple months ago I had my camera on tripod and a rambunctious little person ran by and knocked the whole kit over. All I could see was broken glass. It was the filter... and it was dented. The lens was still perfectly round, while the filter was bent in one place. So it would not spin off. I called the camera service center guys and they told me to cut it off. I did and the lens is in perfect condition, which was a relief. But you'll never catch me without a filter on there!

We put filters on all of our lenses for safety and it has saved us time and time again over the years.

I use filters because I hate lens caps. I only use lens caps for storage. Otherwise you are always messing with it and will miss a shot.
