I bought a set of this trigger and it was working fine from the beginning and then it just stopped completely. Anyone has any idea?

I used it on a canon 40D with the 580 exii

The first thing to check is batteries.

If the transmitter has a "test" button, does that fire the receiver?

I have RD616 receivers and found that the factory batteries did not last over a couple of weeks and maybe 200-500 firings............
