Shooting High School football is no joke!! The lighting is very bad. This is my second High School game. It's quite a bit better then my first but is still far from great. I shot the whole game at ISO 4000! At least they allow you to use a flash. I can't wait till next September when I get a 300 F/2.8. Anyway, here are my fav shots from the night.
Enjoy

Very nice set Russ, I like your eye for the crowd, I am always working so hard on the game I forget the fun stuff sometimes. I would love to shoot at 4000 my 50d does 3200 then 6400 would love to bump it up a notch and get to that without having to go all the way to 6400. Oh well next body will do it I am sure..

So did you use the D700 for these or D300? may I ask how you had your flash set up. I have to shoot a game for a friend in a couple weeks. and would love to have a starting place.

    Thanks David,

Yes, these were with the D700. I used my SB-900 on manual mode and was constantly changing it depending on how far I was away from the action. Crowd shots were generally 1/4 I believe and on field was usually 1/1 or 1/2.

Good stuff Russ. I like several of them quite a bit. I'm no pro, but I think the 2 shots you got of the catches were really good. I also liked the spirit line shot #4. I primarily shoot H.S. Football, and in small class Oklahoma ball, lots of the fields have horrible lighting! Good work.
