DSS#37 Which Old Man of the Wood?

OK...I'm ready for my second DSS challenge. I have this amazing wood carving. I think it easily fills the frame.

Here are a couple of renditions. Which do you prefer?

    I like #4 too, any chance of getting the warm lighting from #1 into the composition of #4? Just a thought...

    Personally I like #2 the best. Maybe cropped a tiny bit tighter on the left. It just looks like the natural coloring of the wood shows a little better. Very nice. It is an amazing carving.

    I like the angle and crop of #4, he looks pensive and distant. But I like the colors of #2. A combination would be interesting to see...

    Such helpful comments. thanks to all. I hope people helped you when you were a newbie here as much as all of you have been helping me!

    I'm going to reshoot tonight and see how I can improve the shot.

    Here are a few more versions. They differ in the lighting on the hat, the amount of truer wood color and the crop (esp the beard.)

    Compared to #4 above (which most people preferred) is this closer to your
    suggestions?
