Hi this is my current entry:

1.

I also posted it to the dailies and I was advised to get rid of the leaves,
so I did:

2.

Can you please give me your opinion on this change and the photo in general
in the context of the DSS #37?

I also have these shots below, that I may consider for the challenge:

3.

and

4.

What do you think?

Thank you.

I like the sharpness and color of the last one, however I would have liked to see the scarecrow in front of the brick wall background only ... without the distraction of the white/gray part of the background in the left.

Thank you, hmm... that was in front of a house, someplace and I cannot move it

... but I was so proud of my nasty dog... :cry

I think the dog is the more interesting subject. Cute dog. My criticism would be that it looks over-sharpened in post-processing. Process the dog pic like you did the scarecrow one and see what it looks like.

Thank you "ghinson" (sorry I don't know your real name) - Yes, I'll reprocess the dog and come back.

    I really appreciate this :)

Exactly. That was the reason I couldn't go with the dog picture. The post-processing seemed to have degraded the quality of the picture.

I just took a look at the Exifs of the dog picture and it says the exposure time is 1/13 sec which pretty much tells the whole story. Your ISO is at 100 at f/8. You could certainly have raised the ISO and lowered the f to 5.6 or 4.0 to increase your shutter speed in order to get a much sharper picture. With these settings, your picture probably came out somewhat blurry so you tried to compensate for it by over-sharpening it which pretty much ruined the image.

I would go with a different entry, if I were you, Tatiana.

OK, thank you - now I see your point

The dog has ben taken from the other side of the street rolleyes1.gif

I guess if this was somebody else's photo I could see the point much easily than when
is my own and I look at it subjectively...

I'll try to find another image for the contest. :D

Thank you for these comments guys - it was really helpful thumb.gif

    reshoot the dog
Allen's advice is right on the mark. If you love the dog photo, then reshoot it with the approach that Allen describes. You would have a stunning filled frame if you could get a crisper image to work with.

PS: I loved the milkweed pod, too.

    Dailies?
    I'm still new here.

What do you mean by posting something to the 'dailies"? Is there another critique somewhere?
