Incorrect Exif Information

Anyone else experience incorrect information on your photos? For instance, I recently shot a few rural landscapes in Aperture Priority. When I posted them on my site (and selected Yes for camera info), the Exposure Program displays as Auto. Is there something I'm missing? I do very little editing in CS4 and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Any ideas??? Thanks....

Av mode is an 'auto' mode, and that's how we report it. I'm sorry we just read the exif from Canon the way it's reported.

That's strange because these photos were also taken in Aperture Priority on my 40D which displays correctly...

7D photo shot in AV from Ken Westermann here
7D photo shot in AV from me here

Westermann's reports as Aperture Priority on the "Exposure Program" in Exif, while mine does not report at all. ne_nau.gifne_nau.gifne_nau.gif At this point, I believe that it's something with my account. It seems that we both have Power/Pro accounts. As a result, I've been shooting in Manual lately (great for learning) but would certainly prefer to shoot in Aperture Priority. I know we've visited this a few times, but clearly there's an inconsistency somewhere. Same camera, same settings - I used a custom WB and his appears as auto WB. Is it possible that something in my SM account is preventing data from fully reporting? Thanks again Andy!!!

I have downloaded/inspected the originals in all 3 cases. Both of your photos are missing the ExposureProgram exif value, and the other image isn't.

How are you editing these files prior to uploading ?

    David:

My post processing workflow is very simple:
    1. RAW conversion using Canon's Digital Photo Professional (minor adjustments to Shadow & Highlights) to jpeg
    2. Unsharp Mask, saturation & Curves adjustments applied in CS4
    3. Saved as using quality of "8" to stay under SmugMug's 10mb limit

    Hey Trav,

It doesn't seem like you are doing anything special/weird, for whatever reason that exif parameter isn't in the file that you are uploading. Can you double check whether it exists in bridge or something similar ?

    Cheers,

It does appear in both. I also have Photoshop Elements and the same issues occur. I've only had CS4 since the summer and most of my photos were edited using Elements 7 until recently.......

I'd already deleted the files (RAW & jpeg) so I took a new photo in Aperture Priority of the "beauty & beast". See links below.

Can you please do a test for me.

    1. Reedit the raw using DPP
    2. Export to jpg, but don't embed the color profile
    3. Open in CS4
    4. Save as...and choose to embed the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.
    5. Upload
    6. Does all the exif show up ?

    headscratch.gifheadscratch.gifheadscratch.gif Same result....

I also saved it as a "Exif-Tiff 8bit", coverted to jpeg in CS4, uploaded and still doesn't show AV as the shooting mode...

from a bit of trial & error, it appears that DPP doesn't export ALL exif data correctly, I have been able to determine that the following items aren't always exported...

    - FocalLength
    - MeteringMode
    - ExposureProgram

Doing a bit of googling, I found similar references on other photography forums.

    Cheers,
