    #1. The whole face looks soft/oof. Were you focusing on his tie knot?
    The BW treatment is bland.
    #2. The eyes are in focus, but it looks like you were very close and used very shallow DOF becose nothing else in his face is (e.g. nose or mouth), albeit his hairs are. It is generally advised to have eyes-nose-mouth in focus, although there are exceptions when you specifically don't want to do that. However this doesn't look like one of those exceptional cases.
