Smugmug works on the Droid

I just got a Droid which has a webkit-based browser and Smugmug seems to work quite well on it. I must say the Droid is quite a capable phone too. So far, I'm liking Android 2.0.

Now, off to figure out how to get photos from the camera up to Smugmug. I presume it has built in integration with Picasa Web so I might have to play with that too.

Yeah I was curious if there was an app or which way to upload since there is a flash update coming after the 1st of the year from Adobe and was curious if this will hold up uploads.

I have the Motorola Droid and love it as well

I have the Moto Droid. Downloaded the Smugmug app this evening.

I think perhaps it's not yet ready for prime time? Very, very slow to respond to screen touches. When I clicked on a photo I repeatedly got a screen asking if I wanted a "fast" or "detailed" tab. No explanation for what that means. Clicked on "fast" and I was dumped out of my account back to the MacAskill front page. To begin anew the laborious process of getting back to where I'd been. No ability to reduce or magnify the screen to fit.

Overall a frustrating experience. I'm guessing that this product is either brand new and very rough, or is just not supported? ne_nau.gif

Yeah, what Smugmug app? I'm using PicPush to automatically upload the photos I take on the phone and just using the browser to view my Smugmug site. I've not had any of the issues you describe.

How do you provide a link to an app? headscratch.gif

It's in the Android app market. It's called Smugmug Mobile App. Author is "monseta."

    e-mail is well430@gmail.com

I'm not sure what else I can tell you that would be helpful. It has ads, BTW.

I'm using Pixelpipe, works like a champ, however they have a proxy account on their server, not to thrilled about that, but it works very well. A native java app to talk directly to smugmug would be very nice.

Have your tried JustPictures on the Market ?
I am developing this application, and people seem to like it for Smugmug (it also supports Picasa and Flickr). Authentication is managed via Smugmug directly (oauth). No proxy or local storage for your credentials...

I have tried it, works great. My challenge is to find a good upload utility.

    Evening everyone.

I have an iPod touch, one of my favourite apps is SmugWallet.

I'm shortly getting the HTC Desire and would love Android equivalents of SmugShot & SmugWallet.

Does anyone have any information as to whether those wonderful & talented developers are going to match their iPhone apps for the Androids?

    Andy

Been making the switch to Smugmug. They came out with an Android Beta Client: http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Android+Beta+Client

My challenge is figuring out how to share a specific picture link from Android. I found how to do it from within the Smugmug website "Be Social" (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=168934), but unfortunately that pop-up doesn't work on the Android Chrome browser.

Can you just copy the browser link to that image and paste it into your email client?

Then I run into the same problem as from the other thread where the link is shared fine, whether on Facebook or Twitter, but it doesn't use the thumbnail from the picture that I want. It just grabs one from the linked gallery. The only way so far to get a specific thumbnail is through the Smugmug "Be Social" page.

You didn't say you were trying to share on FB. Supposedly, Smugmug is trying to fix it so that copy/paste into FB will give you thumbnail choices. I hope they figure it out.

@jfriend Sorry, I wasn't clear in my initial post. Yeah, I just thought I'd share my experience with Smugmug on my Android phone to see if I was the only one... anxiously waiting smugmug/facebook link/thumbnail fix!

FYI, the Share on FB interface seems to work on my Droid phone. I didn't go all the way through to actual post on FB (I didn't want to pollute my own FB wall when I didn't have a real post to make), but the interface came up, I logged into my FB account from my Droid as part of the share on FB and I got the screen to fill out for the FB post. I wouldn't say the interface was particularly mobile friendly (lots of scrolling required to find buttons, etc..., but it seems to work).

Did you try the Share button on your Android phone? If so, what happened?

I did try it and the Be Social pop-up loads but then I get a Bad Gateway error. I was using the default Chrome browser. But I'll try another browser like Dolphin HD and see how it works.

I also got a bad gateway error, but tried again and it worked. I assumed the bad gateway was a generic Smugmug issue in this thread, not particular to Android.

Hmm, I suspected that. Good to know. I tried it again and realized that I hadn't been logged into Smugmug. I was able to get Facebook to authorize but when I went back to Smugmug Be Social the input text box to type in a post didn't show up. I also tried allowing pop-ups in the Chrome settings, but still no joy.
