So close, yet so far....

On my evening commute, there is a little pond/lake where I sometimes stop to take a break and shoot a few pics - sometimes I get lucky, but most of the time the action is on the other side of the water...like this...

or it's too damn far for my measly 300mm...

But then every now and then I get lucky...this green heron (my first) flies toward me and lands about 20 feet away. barely moving, I get the camera up to my face and figure here's my chance to blow through that 1 gig card in the camera. Here's the first shot....

And then what happens? Out of the woods come two dog owners with their dogs who rush the water and my dreams of close-ups galore rapidly recede. As did the heron....

Ah well, there always next week....

Hope you enjoyed...

That's too bad. I know how that feels. Darn people and their bird chasing dogs. eek7.gif On the otherhand...this has worked to my advantage from time to time. I've been waiting...and waiting....and waiting...for a bird to fly off so I can snap off some BIF shots. Darn bird will NOT fly. I throw rocks in the water... stomp my foot on a dock..or just make some noise so the bird will scoot. No dice. I'm waiting...and waiting..then "arf arf arf arf" dog comes running up and scares the bird off....and I GET THE SHOTS. :D Usually I like it better when they are not around.

    Better luck next time.
