“Fat Albert” is the nickname for the C-130 Hercules that accompanies the Blue Angels. It was one of the performers at this year’s Miramar Airshow.

For those who looked good, here is a 100% crop of “the man in the bubble”

And of course the “JATO” (Jet Assisted Take-Off) during the twilight show.

I love the man in the bubble, the first one would have looked cool if you got the shot a second earlier. It would have (maybe) looked like the plane was sitting on the roof of the van.

    cheers, Scott

    You need some prop blur.
I would clone out the white stuff in #3.

Wow! Very nice (although I agree, you need the prop blur). If I tried to do a crop of one of my photos that close, it would be terribly pixelated. How are you able to do that? Maybe I don't do something right when I'm saving mine during PP.

    Thanks for looking and replying.

I know about the prop blur, but at that moment conditions were very harsch. Even at iso100 and f5.6 I got shutter times of 1/1000 and faster. I should have changed to f8.0 (but changing my settings is something I forget a lot)

About the quality of the crop ... I think the quality of the equipment (Canon EOS 1D MkIII + 28-300L IS) will be the main factor here :D ... and the photographer having a (rare) good moment. Also, a C-130 is not flying as fast as a jet. My panning skills can manage that :D

Fun series and some wonderful shots--I enjoyed this a lot! I've seen the Thunderbirds many times, and also the British Red Arrows, but I've never seen the Blue Angels in person. I bet it was a great show in addition to being a good photo op!

Thanks, it was a great show. It was also the first time for that I saw the Blue Angels in person.
