Great stuff, Swarzy! thumb.gif That last one kicks butt!!

I've been doing some reading about lighting lately, and I know there are a lot of subtleties in achieving those looks. bowdown.gifBravo!

Love all the different looks. The first one is probably my favorite.

    Nice stuff Swartzy!!!

    1. Niiiice mood and look. Is it my monitor, or is the tie slightly blown? It's not a dealbreaker, but I did find myself noticing it.

    2. LOVE. Lighting, background, expression. Love, love, love. Only tiny nit might be the garment label but given that's kind of a cool font/vintage look to it, perhaps it doesn't matter in the slightest.

    3. TV, modern-day, city-cop-shop promo shot. Again, I love it. The hard lighting nails the mood.

4 This is the only which doesn't quite fly for me. I love the James Dean kinda feel, but the spread-eagle-almost-crotch-shot kind of kills it for me (especially with the argyle sock!). A different crop would save it for me, I think.

    5. (there is no #5 :D)

    6. Like it a lot, but is the softbox reflection in the glasses ok, or a no-no? It's only that little tip and I actually kind of like it, but I thought it was one of those "Thou shalt not...." kinda things. Just asking (edumacate me, please!)

7 & 8 totally do what they set out to achieve and totally work. The last one is AWESOME - making the church look kind of Matrix-like and mod is VERY VERY cool bowdown.gifbowdown.gifbowdown.gif

Seriously - thanks for posting. These really have the feel of movie promotional stills - it's like having our own George Hurrell on the board! thumb.gif

#8! bowdown.gifbowdown.gifbowdown.gifbowdown.gifbowdown.gif (what is the limit to the number of bowdown.gif you can put in?) Whatever it is, that is my vote. Love it.

Behind the scenes? Composite or onsite? Tell us, please do!

Thanks Joel. Yes, lighting has it's challenges, especially when creating your own for conveying particular moods...Laughing.gif. It can be fun and frustrating all at the same time :D

Thank you Caroline. I shot this one in camera greyscale to see if it was going to convert..then of course, shot it in color later to be converted. Some shots simply speak better in B&W. mwink.gifwink

Thanks Diva...well, the slight softbox reflection...not a problem....as you know...as you've seen...watching movies...you'll find all sorts of flaws..BUT....they convey the mood. I decided to leave the reflection there as it adds realism to the shoot as the processing went that way as well.

It's great you're looking at the light, the angles and seeing stuff...very good! Thanks so much for all the comments. It was a fun and productive day.

Hey Shatch....long time no see....thanks for the kind words! OK..I'll fess up (You know you've done a great composite when someone asks this question...Laughing.gif)

Anyway, yes, a 2 shot composite. 2 lights. CL was a gridded stripbox to the side. CR, a high bare bulb pointing down on subject. I laid on the floor using a full frame camera at 24mm. The barrel of the gun was inches away from the lens. The original shot showed this much better but knew it would end up in a "scene"....the cathedral had a great deal of processing/color, blending mode changes to better match the look. It came together fairly quickly this time. Some of my composites (hey, you know..you do lots of them) take an entire day :D

    Thanks again!

Thanks...I've been going back and forth with that. His last name is Altman and the tag is reflective of his name (partially)..so that's why the ? I might pull it in and rid the shot of it to see how it looks.
