Resizing Questions

The question is about how images are resized. I looked at the documentation at http://www.smugmug.com/help/display-quality

I have a hunch I know the answer but figure I should ask. When an image size is stated as up to 100 and up to 100, I am assuming that the larger of the two sizes is the limiting factor. So that a 300x400 image would be sized to 75x100 not 100x133.

So if an image is not 3x4 or the same aspect ratio such as a watermark, how is it expanded/sized? I am trying to figure out the size of the watermark that I want to use. So my plan is to test them locally on my computer ahead of time so that I can get it closer before uploading. So does a watermark do an enlargement by the proportion or is it a non aspect locked enlargement? :scratch

Make sense?

Yes, see my post about "secret URL's". If you specify 100x100, think of a box that size that SM will fit the foto into without changing the aspect ratio. If your original is 300x400, it will have to limit the height to 100 and thus the width to 75. If you want them all to be exactly 100 wide, you specify something like 100x9999. If you feed that a 300x400 image, it becomes 100x133.

I have no clue about watermarks....

    cheers,
    Nick.

    Thanks Nick.

It is the watermark one that has me scratching my head. I am trying to figure out how it will react so that I can try it out before uploading and using it. I can create a simple action in Fireworks to mimic most of the processing, but not sure how to make the watermark size.clap.gif

So any ideas on how the resizing gets one if the watermark is not the same size as the picture is it just to the largest dimension that matches but keeps the proportions?ne_nau.gif
