Nikon 70-200VR on the way...was I crazy not to wait for the VR2?

The brown truck should have my B&H stuff here on thursday. :) I recently rented a 70-200 and was blown away...totally fell in love. The prices were a little higher than I remember ($1900), but I wen't ahead and ordered one. The VR2 should be coming out very soon, but I figured that between availability issues I would be better off just getting my hands on something now.

Thoughts? (I have 15 days to make up my mind. :P)

Shooting FX, no landscapes/architectural.

    I would check that out.

    Personally I would wait.

If the newer 70-200 is anything like the 24-70 for micro contrast and color. Then it's defiantly worth it.

I wonder how much I could get for my 70-200 in, say, 6 months? That new model looks incredible at 100%...

Depending on initial availability of the VR2, I will see about just selling/returning my soon to be delivered 70-200 VR1 and picking up the new model.

    *crosses fingers*

If for some reason you run into issues returning it I'm sure there are a lot of parties that would be interested in taking it off your hands :)

Just spoke with B&H...they said they expect to be able to fill orders for the VR2 within 2-3 weeks. :D

Dude, I say return it, and wait it out... unless you REALLY need it for those 2-3 weeks.

If they actually have some VR2 glass available when they say they will, trust me...that VR1 will be on the first flight back to New York I can find. :) Otherwise, I will simply relish in all the VR1 goodness until next year sometime. Not bad either way, really.

I have the 70-200 I and use it on my D700 all the time. I use DXO that corrects all the "problems" of shooting this lens on full frame. I have not felt the need to upgrade. I may after I see some samples but so far I have not seen anything compelling me too.

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I do PJ work and the D700/70-200 combo is my bread and butter. If I were ordering one now and the price difference didn't matter, I would get the new one. Since I have the old 70-200, I would rather spend money on something else.

Here is a brickwall shot with the D700/70-200 no cropping and processing done with DXO

And a powder puff game I shot tonight.

I like to call this personality. :D Let me be clear, I have no complaints after using the VR1 for "real work". Laughing.gif...yes, under the loupe it's flaws are apparent, but in reality these minor issues will never cause you to lose a gig, get paid less, or even miss a shot. It's just a matter of...hey...the new one's here *flash, sparkle, shimmer* .....ohhhh, I want it! :D
