White Pelicans
The White Pelicans have returned to the City of Sebastian, Florida. The following photos were taken from an empty lot next to the Judah and Sons Fish Company, 13390 Indian River Drive, Sebastian, Florida. A lady who lives across the street apparently has for years keep track of their arrival each year, and notes the times of the day when they fly into or out at the area. She told me that this year, the White Pelicans first arrived October 28, 2009. She further said that most Brown Pelicans avoid the area when the White Pelicans are present. That may be due to the great size difference between the two species as demonstrated in the first two photos.

White Pelican nesting colonies are found on remote, treeless islands and are distributed mostly from the Canadian prairie, south to southern California and the Texas Gulf Coast. A large proportion of the birds nest in Canada. They winter from the southern United States to Guatemala
