Iam exploring options to get a 'walk around lens' and am considering this lens for my 40D. Does anyone have any feedback on this lens first hand. i havent found too many reviews out there.

The Canon EF-S 15-85mm, f3.5-f5.6 USM IS is a brand new lens for Canon (Sep '09) and there are not a lot of reviews around, even user reviews.

    Best review is at:

It does appear to be an upgrade from the Canon EF-S 17-85mm, f4-f5.6 USM IS. Whether the extra cost is justified is up to you to decide. It certainly still has plenty of compromise in the image quality and is not really near "L" image quality. The 15-85mm is also half again the cost of the 17-85mm.

The Canon EF-S 17-55mm, f2.8 USM IS is still the leader in image quality in Canon normal/standard crop zoom lenses, and it truly produces images that rival Canon "L" series lenses. It is half again more than the 15-85mm, f3.5-f5.6, but I think it's easier to justify the extra cost by the results.
