Lots of differences and lots of models to choose from.

How do you intend to use the units?

What distances do you anticipate between the transmitter and receiver?

    Indoors or outdoors?

these are the ones I use RD 616 from Ebay seller PhotoGearOk ......... They are 16 channels so you have lots of options for not interfering or being interfered with from others near by using your gear on location.

I use very similar units to the ones that Art is recommending and they work fine for wedding and event uses as well as personal uses. I normally use them with studio monolights, but I've tested them with small battery-powered units as well.

i use the RF-602 from ebay, there are many reviews on them, and they seem to work well. If you use them as shutter release and flash you will need two transmitters, on different chanels.
