Quick Way to Find Duplicate Images in an Upload

So with the new uploader, if the uploader misses some, no big deal. Just put them all in again and tell it to skip duplicates. :thumb

Well, what happens when you have a batch upload finish and you find that you have more files. :scratch Not a problem if you only have a few, but when you have 640+ like in my last gallery where this happened, tracking down the extra file can be tedious to say the least. :cry

Luckily the skip duplicates feature on the new uploader can help you here as well. How, do you ask? Well, let me tell you. :wink

My source files were 641, and my gallery showed 642. That's one duplicate file somewhere. In the uploader, if there is a duplicate file, it gives you a link to "view duplicate". If there is more than one file of the same name already in the gallery (ie duplicates in the gallery), the link will say "multiple duplicates".

So drag and drop your entire batch into the uploader, select skip duplicates and look for the filename with "multiple duplicates" next to it instead of "view duplicate". I found my file in less than 30 seconds. :thumb

Hopefully this will help someone.

Great tip! I'm sure this will be useful to others. You don't even have to select 'skip duplicates'. It'll show them right after you dragged the photos in.

The new uploaders have no selection box until a photo is added. If
you drag a photo in it starts uploading immediately. Just drag a
raw or non photo in the box, it ignores it but the selection box appears
so you can set "skip duplicates".

And this is why the whole uploading immediately without a button press was a hotly debated feature when released. It was better the old way imo.

I'm working on a much, much, much easier way to find duplicates. If you want to help me test it, PM me.
