To photograph 25 people as a group shot, you are going to need a large space if you want to shoot indoors. You will also probably need some lighting, either indoors, or out of doors, unless you just want to shoot them in sunlight ( not my recommendation )

What facilities and light do you plan to utilize?

Placing them in the shade a building and using some gelled ( maybe 1/4 or 1/2 CTO) flash for fill, is probably the simplest, easiest, and most inexpensive in terms of equipment. Put you camera on a tripod, and use the self timer to allow you to be in the photograph as well, if that is your desire.

I'm considering using a staircase to arrange all of my family, and yes I will be included in the photo so my camera will be on a tripod.

Can you really fit 25 people on a standard width staircase in a typical home? Or is this much wider than a typical 4 foot wide staircase?

Its a very elaborate staircase at a hotel we know the owners of..

I think its like 6 or 7 feet wide and is very nice.

    Indoors or outdoors?

Are you going to need more lights?
