"PROOF" Watermark appeared from nowhere

Last week I added a few pictures to my homepage slideshow. These pictures had no watermark on them. Everything has been fine until this morning when I noticed, out of the blue, the PROOF watermark has decided to show up on 4 of the images. What would have caused this as I have made no changes on my end?

There are 64 images in your slideshow, which ones have the watermark?

I was in the process of removing the watermarks in the gallery settings and they have all now gone away. The last 2 were #'s 55 & 58 if that helps. What would have caused that to happen out of the blue?

uploading with a watermark setting on, changing the setting in the gallery, putting them in one gallery first then moving them, any number of possibilities....

.....all of which I have not done. I'd like to know a little more specifically so to hopefully prevent that from happening on other images on my site that I will have no knowledge of when it occurs. I have my own watermarks that I selectively use and would never want that PROOF to appear on my images. Again, I have done nothing to that gallery since last week and it just showed up from nowhere.

The images in that gallery are from copies in their respective galleries, then moved to the slideshow gallery. I've checked the original images to confirm no watermark exists on those as well.

They were actually from several different galleries. This is one of them and the first image is the one that had PROOF on it in the slideshow gallery....

Andy.....I know this is quite a low priority issue, but one I would like to understand what the heck happened to cause it so maybe it won't happen again or perhaps someone else with the same issue benefits from the discussion. Maybe you're still looking into it but it sounded like you were on to something with your last response more than 24 hours ago......

Well, I've been patient enough but for some reason it seems my issue here has been abandoned by Andy. I'm miffed as to why he chooses to just drop something after responding so quickly to the initial question. Sheesh, whatever. :bluduh

If anyone else has a clue about why the PROOF watermark would appear out of nowhere, I'd love to know.

I can't explain it or replicate it, I'm sorry.

Please email me at the help desk if this behavior repeats - and do so immediately when it happens, and change nothing in your galleries till we can look at things.

    Thanks!

I'm sorry that you were dealing with a medical issue. But, I only became frustrated since I've seen you posting on other threads for the past 2 days with seemingly no lapse. If I saw that you weren't responding to anyone else, I would assume you were busy with something else and would have waited longer to express my disdain.

I'm well aware of the support heroes as I have always used them with great success over the years. However, I didn't want to use your valuable resources needlessly for something like this. I've also seen you guys complain when people duplicate a support question both with the heroes and this forum. I don't post a lot on this forum but always get a lot out of it and wanted to start using it more for this sort of thing. Perhaps this is reason enough to rely solely on the support heroes from now on.

When you responded with this....."aha, from what gallery please? ear.gif".....I assumed you were on to something. I guess that's not the case. As far as not changing anything.....trust me, I understand the need to troubleshoot something while it occurs, but if it is something visually displeasing on my homepage and I can correct it immediately, I'll do that and ask questions later. In this case, I would have that watermark on those images appearing on my homepage slideshow for 2 days now if I was waiting to hear back on this thread.

So, after all this, I can get no inkling of an explanation as to where PROOF comes from or what it's for? It's just something that can't be explained? headscratch.gif

    Danny, no, NOT at all.

It's just a way to get my attention again if I get distracted.

I'm very sorry I dropped the ball on this thread.

Yes, it told me more. It told me you made a copy from a prior gallery - maybe that gallery had the watermark setting then you moved the photo then changed the setting. But you say this is not the case.

I'm sorry, but I can't troubleshoot this further until we can replicate it. I've tried. If it happens again get a hold of us ASAP and don't change anything. We'll sort it out if we can replicate it.

    Thanks.

Understood. I seem to recall there being a discussion quite a long time ago (a couple of years perhaps) with regards to this PROOF watermark. Can you point me to an explanation of it? I can't seem to find anything about it in the help files either.

Danny, it's our default watermark. You'll find that info right here in our help pages:

That help page only refers to custom watermarks which I am familiar with, not smugmug's default watermark.

Danny, it's all the same feature. Tools>Many Photos>more>watermarking
