From a couple of days ago.

I'm looking for suggestions on improving this one. I think a part of the answer
might be wider angle. I'm not sure.

Hit me with what you've got.

hmmm. well its a very nice shot, with little room for improvement in my opinion. the sun seems perfectly framed by the leaves of the tree...sortof "nestled" in there. The white line caused by the meadow on the horizon draws the eyes and keeps them from wandering to the top or bottom of the photograph which is either dark or busy...so thats great. I'd maybe consider cropping out a small bit of the right side of the photo so that there is less white exposed to the border. And even perhaps making(by cropping) the meadow's "white line" on the horizon the center of the photograph, rather than the sun. Again though, great shot - and I doubt youll find much advice on improvement.

15524779-Ti.gif What I like is that the sun is slightly off-centre in the second one.

    Thanks all!

Rather than edit, I re-shot. It's nice having an urban park so near home. Toss the
backpack on, head over and park in the "private" motorcycle only parking :D

This is one of the most popular parks in the area and it's free (others charge
$5 to park). So whilst others circle, motorcycles just pull into a nice space.

Oh, and there are bobcats here too. I saw one the other night. But without a
    flash, no good piccies.

I'm far from knowing what others here know about photography, but I like the first one better. The seconfd one appears to monotone, green leaves all brown grass. I like the way the sun is framed better in the first one, peeking in between the tree and the hill.

The tree is more shadowed and appears to fall in line with the color change of the "grass". And to me the foreground in the original leads you to the sun.

Again, I'm not even a good ameture but I like your first on better, it's much more interesting. Alot more is going on, for me that's good.

I have to agree with kini62. I think the placement of teh sun in the first one is better. I also like the contrast in the first over the 2nd. The second picture looks a little too washed out. I do like the width of the second and that it starts on the right with the tree instead of a little sky. I think a compromise between the two shots would be the best. But then again each is beautiful and unique as it is. Just my opinion.

    The second is a better...
...composition IMO. I like the light in the foreground on the first shot. Maybe take it again a half hour sooner. (keep that sun out of my eyes!):D

Ian, my .02.... move up, so we can see more of the horizon/ridge that currently feels like it's obscured by the tree. And then use a wider angle lens so you can still get a broad sweep of the grass and the tree overhead, plus the distant ridge.

Thanks Waxy. I was going to try that when I realized I'd left the 15 back at the
ranch (small subset for the bike). I'd like to try that as well as the 10-22.

Interestingly, the first was shot with 10-22 and the second, 16-35 at ~16.
