I'm looking for a Grip Strap, at least that's what I think it's called. It mounts to the bottom of the camera body and wraps around your hand instead of using a neck strap. Who uses what and what do you like/dislike about them? Also, does anyone know of or have you used THIS or something similar to it? I'm looking for something like this so I can carry my camera in a non camera specific bag and still have it protected. Thanks!

Kris

Our Andy used to recommend the Hakuba hand strap:

I use soft wraps for my mounted large format lenses and they work nicely for that purpose. I suppose they would be fine for smaller cameras too. For larger cameras with larger lenses I would use a camera holster instead.

The wraps I use were purchased from Calumet.

Ziggy - Thanks for the links and insight.

Seymore - Do you have any more photos of your setup? Very interesting!

I use and highly recommend Camdapter hand straps and plates. I have one on each of my three bodies. Very high quality products and customer service.

Do you find that there is a good amount of adjustability for different sized hands with these Grip Straps? And by chance do you have any experience with the Manfrotto base? Thanks!

There is a lot of adjust ability, and yes, I have used the Manfrotto bases when I was using that type. IMHO, don't waste your money on the non-base specific version. The Manfrotto (or other types as needed) work great and it's very convenient to always have one on your camera whether you use a tripod or a monopod.

The base design is cool also in the fact that it has a slot for a neck-strap connection also. I don't use a neck-strap anymore, but when I did, it allows you to have the hand-strap for when you are holding the camera, but when your not, you can use your neck-strap. This sounds just like others, but it's not. With this setup, your neck-strap hangs down on the left side of your camera if you don't have it around your neck. This keeps the neck-strap out of your way when shooting with the hand-strap. Very handy indeed thumb.gif

I think Andy did a review a long time ago on the Camdapter, and his post had images of the neck-strap as I stated.

I use this soft case and really like it. You can use it for just a little walk around case or use it to be able to put your camera in a backpack.

    There are several different sizes.

+1 on the Camdapter straps. A couple or three years ago I bought one based on a quick review Andy posted some time ago and liked it so much I went back a bought a second one for a second camera. I will either have it on the camera or not, depending I the shooting situation. Re-installing it (or installing it the first time) takes only a couple of minutes and so easy I usually do it the night before the shoot while watching TV or talking with the DW.

Thanks for the link to that review. I now see what Rwells was talking about with the neck strap and grip strap working in harmony. I think I've found what I'm looking for! Thanks everyone.
