#1 I am new here so skip me if you're impatient or into flaming (thank you).

So here I go...

I'm not sure I understand the notes on the Cname setup for godaddy users.

I already have a domain name and have set up the www alias in the CNAMES section.

But when setting up the A(host) record won't using smugmug's dns point to smugmug and not my actual subdomain?

Also when I go to smugmug and try to add my custom domain name it bounces me back to the help page for setting up domains.

I'm completely lost and confused and having set up many websites in the past it seems to me this should be more simple for me. I wonder how someone who has not worked with DNS in the past must feel.

Thanks for any help you might offer.

Hi are you trying to setup a domain, www.yourdomain.com, or a subdomain, photos.yourdomain.com?

If you are setting up a domain you need to use a CNAME and A record:

    www CNAME pointing to domains.smugmug.com
    @ A record pointing to 208.79.45.23

If you are setting up a subdomain you need to use a CNAME only:

    photos CNAME pointing to domains.smugmug.com

If you want to email the help desk: http://www.smugmug.com/help/emailreal and give us your domain name we can help you get it set up. If the Control Panel is not accepting your domain name that means it is not set up correctly.

Okay, so as I suspected my domain is point to smugmugs home page.

How am I supposed to find out what my subdomain's DNS is?

And why when I try to add my custom domain name do I get this error:

That hostname doesn't resolve to SmugMug's CNAME (domains.smugmug.com). See our help section on custom hostnames.

    Thanks gluwater for responding.

No it is a straight domain name. Not sub domain.

I followed the instructions on the configuring a godaddy name page.

Everything looks right. I will wait until tomorrow to see if it works then.

    Thanks
