San Diego on two lenses and one leg

Hi Y'all,

I'm back from San Diego. Since this was a sightseeing trip with the wife I only took my D300 and the 80-400 and the 18-200 lenses with me. The D3 and the more serious glass were left home.

The first day was at the SD Zoo and I somehow blew out my bad knee there so I didn't get in too many captures.

The second day at the Wild Animal Park was better as we took the Photo Caravan tour where we didn't have to walk and rode through the exhibits in a flat bed. It allowed us to get close to a number of animals.

Our last day was set aside for Linda to shop. This was the closest thing I found to wildlife.

I limped home the next day after some moderate harrassment from the fatherland security folks. They got kind of freaked by the silhouette on their x-ray machine from the stuffed elephant I bought for my grandson.

BTW, if you are ever offered the choice of being waterboarded or flying coast to coast in coach go for the waterboarding. Its a tad more intense but its over much. much quicker.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

#1 looks like both of you are checking out the capture. Would that still be considered Chimping? :D

So, it sounds like it's back to shooting from behind the wheel over at Viera. PM if you need a driver, we'll use my wagon.

    Very nice shots.

DC to Dubai, might be worse in coach than coast to coast. 13 hours....

Thanks for the offer Jim but I can still drive. I just can't walk w/o my cane and a good deal of pain.

Thanks Brad. I don't even want to think about 13 hours in coach. I did three back and forths to Vietnam many years ago and that was a 25-26 hour haul. Of course coach in those days was a lot more roomy and I was a lot more agile, flexible, and lighter also. :D

Sorry to hear about the bum knee .... After 5 knee surgeries I can sure relate! Getting older is sometimes not much fun ... but it beats the alternative!

    The flamingo shot is great.

I had a bad knee for a long time and finally just bit the bullet and had surgery. It was a smart move for me.

When I lived in NYC I rarely visited the Bronx Zoo. It seems that we take for grantedthe locales that are easy to get to.

ThaNks Glenn. We had a fine time in San Diego.

The giraffres and rhinos were rather amiable as long as you had food in your hand.

SD is a very nice for a city. Wish I had more time to do some non-wildlife photography there.

Nice series. The flamingo is my favorite because of the colorful but not overpowering background thumb.gif

Thanks Dan, if you like rhinos you would have loved the tour we took at the Wild Animal Park.

Thanks Stephen. I asked the guide about the gash but they weren' sure how she got it.
