My friend lives out on a rural point in Downeast Maine. I recently went overthere looking for the family of Bobcats that live on the point, they declined to make an appearence, but I did meet a few of his other nieghbors.

I'm pretty sure that's a White-Tailed Ptarmigan. And the fact that it's banded, makes this a real trophy!

Thanks Daren, my friend and I thought it might be a pidgon because it was close to the right size and niether of us have ever seen any bird that looks like that in Maine. After looking up white tailed ptarmigans on the internet it looks like it could be a possibility, any body got any idea what it was doing 2000 pluse miles from its know habitat of the mountains of western North America and at sea level on the coast to boot?
