A point and shoot walks into the woods...
It was going to rain. It was going to be cold. It was my first multi-day backpacking trip in over 5 years.
But it was going to be in a beautiful wilderness area in West Virginia, in the fall.
The conflict between bringing the full camera kit (10-12lbs) and the P&S was raging in my head - right up to the moment I loaded the care and drove away.
Ultimately it was my knees that made the call. I'd leave the full kit and at home and chose to exercise my skill at outwitting my little Coolpix & iPhone.
The quality of the shots from the tiny Coolpix impressed me - especially when I figured out how to fool the various "modes" that it had. (My P&S has no manual setting) Anyway, here was the best I was able to pull straight from my camera, with little post-processing. (IE the B&W's are from the camera's point of view)
The trail cut through the Cranberry Wilderness in WV, along a pretty little stream.
Then, it shifted and plowed straight up the ridge and into a patchwork of pines and maples. It was a very dramatic shift in the feel of the trail and the hike.
Ah... a walk in the woods counters so many ills. I came back sore and happy. (and more then a little wet.)
