The Juxtaposition of the framing, along with the young lady sitting in the window with a strange Gaze and expression on her face. That, along with all the objects on the floor really create a very bizarre shot.
I've been wanting to do some of the Paranormal Tours, after seeing this, I'm not so sure now:D:D:D
I like them both, Joel. The first is a little stranger and I think the light works better...the color temperature of the flash in #2 looks a little off to me. Did you use a gel?

No gel. I should have used a CTO now that you mention it, right? Had one in my bag too.
I like both too, but the second one is just a bit cooler.
Roadkill, thanks. When you say "cooler", do you mean from a color temperature standpoint (as Richard), or did you mean the slang sense that it's a more interesting picture?
I really like #1. The color of the sky behind her adds to the eerie feel of the overall shot. The lighting is superb. Very nice work.
Thanks, Niconic1! I struggled with bouncing the flash off various surfaces to try to get that look. The light was fading fast, so I had to ad-lib. Problem was, there were huge holes in the walls and not a lot of surface to bounce off. :giggle
You're new here, huh? I saw your motocross shots -- great stuff. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I'm new in general. I've always really loved photography and finally was in a position to start buying some equipment and explore an absolutely amazing hobby. Every single time I pick my camera up I have fun. Every single time I read more about technique, etc, I learn more about what to do, not do, new techniques to try, etc.
I'm extremely amateur at this point but I'm seriously looking forward to watching my skills progress as I get more time to shoot. Thanks for the kind words about the MX stuff. That's my other expensive hobby :ivar :D
Wonderfully weird shots Joel! No, seriously, I really like them and partially it is because they are so different! Your model was quite courageous to sit on that window ledge with her feet amongst all the uh, er, 'debris', whatever-it-is, on the floor. Great lighting....keep it up!

But you can probably tweak it in Photoshop as well.

Thanks, and thanks for the idea, Richard. I really, really, need to remember to gel my flash in the evenings.
