...to sort myself out. A newly emerged and fully dried out bluebottle fly. #2 was focus stacked using zerene stacker using 3 shots. I gather the fly blows up it's head with fluid to break out of the pupal case.

Josh - focus stacking is a way of increasing the DOF by combining multiple photographs taken at different focus depths.

Ian - it was on a pond filter brush that I often shoot raindrops on - I was actually moving the brush slightly to get a better angle on a raindrop when the fly appeared to see what was going on.
