Dragonfly Nymph

Hi, took these shots a couple of hours ago - dragonfly nymph 'skeletons' on a fence post near our farm dam. I am not sure what the threads are coming out of their backs :dunno Can anyone enlighten me?

Think Phil is right about the breathing tubes - the emerging bug does seem to use them as safety lines.
