Battery failing?

I have a 40D with a battery pack. Recently when I recharge the batteries, one battery is very much lower than the other, eg just now I put one battery in the charger and it's full, when I put in the other the charger began blinking twice, and still is 10min later.

Is this normal, or should I be suspicious this battery is failing and unreliable?

Thanks.

If you mean that you are using a vertical grip with 2 batteries, I think that some grips do discharge one battery and then the other battery, in a staged rather than parallel/simultaneous discharge.

    Which grip do you have?

What happens if you remove the grip and use each battery separately?

Thanks, Ziggy! I've more or less only noticed this in the last month or so, so I'm not sure what's what. Yes it's the vertical grip for the 40D, two batteries. I'll note which side the lower battery is on next time and swap them to see if it's the side they're on that matters. That would also tell me which battery to swap out with my spare when power gets low.
