Here's a shot I got from Double Arch in Arches National Park. Ron and I decided to wander around the park and find a good place to shoot under moonlight. I'd love to get your thoughts on this.

Gorgeous, no doubt about it. We light-painted the bottom of it when we were there. Honestly, I like the straight moonlight look better. Great job. thumb.gif

IMHO, I think that this is one of the best photos of this area that I have ever seen. It is different. I am sure that there are other night shots of these double arches, but I have never seen them. That, combined with the color of the rock and the detail make this a real winner in my book. Excellent work!

Fabulous. clap.gif I'd love to hear how you did it. Is it a single exposure or a blend?

Incredible shot, Danny! Very nicely done! thumb.gif

I'm guessing you used a relatively high ISO to avoid star trails? Or, a seperate exposure for the stars?

Thanks! Ron actually did some light painting in the lower left corner to bring out a little detail in the shadows. We wanted to keep it looking natural so it was kept to a minimum.

Thank you very much for the compliment! I don't think I've seen any night shots from the area either. It just seemed like it would be a really cool place to experiment.

    Equipment: Canon 5D MkII & 17-40L
    Shutter speed: 25 seconds
    Aperture: f/5.6
    ISO: 3200
    Focal length: 19mm

Since this was shot at a relatively high ISO, I took five consecutive images in order to blend and average out the noise in post-processing.

The exposure for everything in this scene came from only one image. However, since the noise levels were pretty high with ISO 3200, I had to stack and blend several images.

Thank you, Aaron. I had a lot of free time on my hands this last summer but I don't think next summer will be the same. We'll see.
