Bottle Bustin' Fun

While the older folks were inside playing card games this Thanksgiving I went out with my son's to break beer bottles :rofl Lighting used was the headlights of my Mom's car and a flashlight pointing into the garbage can. These aren't the best, but kinda neat how the bottom of a bottle can be blown out with the slap of a hand. For you beer lovers....no beer was wasted. It was consumed first and then refilled with water :D

Thanks for clarifying that was water… I nearly fell out of my chair. I remember doing that with bottles… it has been a while. Not bad considering the lighting you had to work with. Have you considered doing it again with better lighting?

Yeah....we didn't waste any of that good beer rolleyes1.gif

I'd love to do it again with better lighting. After taking these photos I came up with other idea's, but the bottles were all gone.

What kind of lighting would you use? I'm soooo open to suggestions :D

headscratch.gif I didn't now this was done. I feel like I've been missing out.

I'm glad you took photos of it, otherwise I wouldn't have believed you.

Like the series, I like the harsh lighting too--I think it works for this set of shots.

Hello Mary Kim - I really like #4, it gives the "whole picture" on what was going on (and how). I also really like the lighting.. to me makes the shot.

    I agree Liz…

…well, at least it was Bud Light (I mean, it could have been Dogfish Head 120 min IPA… eek7.gif )

Interesting pics, and well executed! thumb.gif

    Hi Azzaro --

I was surprised to that I could be that quick, but we practiced a few times first without breaking the bottle. Worked out good...I only missed one shot :D

Helped out too that I wasn't the person who emptied the bottles rolleyes1.gif

Thank-you for your comment and taking a look Azzaro.

    Hi Liz....

I didn't know you could do this either. So I was all game to try it out when my son told me about it.

It was amazing how the bottom just pops right off. Wish I could of gotten closer, but I was really worried about flying glass. Should of used my 70-300 on the shots, but I really wanted to use my trusty 24-105 lens.

Thanks for taking a look Liz and I'm glad you liked the lighting :D

    Hi Devin :D

You like the lighting too clap.gif I was going to use our car, but my Mom's car has halogen lights.

    Yep....#4 shows how it's done :D

Thank-you for leaving a comment Devin.

Ah, the useful life skills we learn on DGrin clap.gif ... Like others, can't wait to try it. Does this work on camera lenses too? :cry

    Howdy Wil --

I think it was my sheltered upbringing too because I didn't know about it, but makes me wonder about my son's friends because he knows how to do it headscratch.gif:D

How it's done: Empty the bottle of beer because you don't want to waste the good stuff. Fill it up to the bottom of the neck of the bottle and then pour alittle out. After that...pop the palm of your hand down hard enough for pressure and to form a seal when you hit it. It will blow out the bottom.

We filled the bottles with warm water because it was cold out. You do have to be careful tho....glass does fly out.

If you do this...I'd love to see your photos. I wanted to take more photos, but the other bottles were in the garbage under the doggie poo...for some reason no one volunteered to dig them out and clean them up headscratch.gif

I'm glad you liked the photos -- thank you for your comments Wil :D

Amazing what a mother can learn/see over the hoildays when the kids come home <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/rolleyes1.gif" border="0" alt="" >

The lighting....Just used what I had on hand at the time. Wonder if I should of laid a white sheet over the headlights to soften the lighting????

Thanks for looking Craig...your turn next to try this. You could probably do this with a wine bottle too :D

What a great party trick this would make. Nice images, I love it when I learn something.

    Hi Shawn :D

It is a good party trick.

If you try it -- photograph it. I'd love to see it. There is so much room for improvement over my photos. Someone with the proper lighting and set-up could really catch the bottom blowing out. Using a cars headlights and a garbage can isn't the "best" set up rolleyes1.gif

Classic application of physics force multiplier. I'll keep an eye out for empty beer bottles to give this a try.
