this Yong Nuo is like the one I use.....I have no problem with anything I have of this brand.....My remote for my Nikon D300 is the 3rd of these I have had....previous 2 were for Konica Minolta Camera's and are still working......

I have had NO problems ordering from Hong Kong either, may take upto 2 weeks, 14days, to receive it but in the end it will be worth it..................

I have bought 2 remote releases (corded, not IR) off eBay from Hong Kong dealers, one for a 50D. Both cost under $10, and both work fine. Just make sure that it is the one for the 50D (rebels take a different plug) and that the cord length is what you want. Some are very short, like 1m or less, and some are several times that. I nearly pulled a camera off a table once because I tripped on a long cable release.

Added note the one I linked above is an RF.....RADIO FREQUENCY.......16 channels ....not IR.....infrared light..........corded remotes are dangerious especially outdoors.....more especially outdoors in the wind:D

I haven't used it with a 50D, but the Canon RC-1 wireless remote works fine with both the Rebel XSi and the 5D Mark II, so I imagine it should work with the 50D as well. It's inexpensive and works well.

The RC-1 will not work with the 50D. The 50D does not accept IR triggers. I suggest going with the remote that Art linked to. I tested out a Promaster trigger similar to that on my 50D and it seemed very reliable. Works up to 100 meters. I tested it about 50 feet away, and it worked perfectly. I don't know of anyone that needs to trigger their camera from 100 meters, but you can!

Edit: Also I wouldn't worry too much about dealing with business in Hong Kong. 99.99% of the time they're legit. And the products are just as good as any other Made in China product purchased in the states, and they're usually half the price!

I have a different style remote that works on my 30D and 40D. From what I can see, it looks like the 50D has the same style plug - a several different style remotes all are listed under "RS 80N3" so I'm thinking that may refer to the plug style, and I see remotes under that model number that are listed as 50D and 7D compatible.

It works as advertised, 2+ years now on the original batteries, and as Art mentioned, it's radio operated, not IR, so you don't need to worry about line-of-sight, and I've had it work at 50+ feet away from the camera. I've pointed a number of friends to this remote, and haven't heard any complaints. Like Jeremy said, don't let the fact that it comes from Hong Kong dissuade you, you should be satisfied with these units, and at less than half the price of a "name brand" unit, it's hard to beat.

Again check out the RF-602 units you get a remote trigger and a wireless flash in one setup. You will need two transmitters to use it as both together.

Ted, the OP is looking for a wireless shutter release, not a flash trigger.

Surprisingly it doesn't work on any of the XXD bodies. Rebels and the 5D MarkII only. eek7.gif

Thats one of the great things about the Rf-602, it is both for the price of one. Used as either great, But you do need two transmitters to release shutter and trigger flash at the same time. If you only use one it will work like a slave being fired off a preflash.

Did you decide on anything yet? Think you missed item 2 in the Flea Market here on dgrin http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=151950. I got an earlier model of this brand from him a couple of years ago I think it was and it has served me well. He is in Indiana but the product is mfg. overseas.

    Good luck

Yeah, for some reason Canon didn't include the IR sensor on the XXD bodies. When I moved up from a 300D to a 30D, I needed to get a new remote, which also works on my 40D.
