Always enjoy looking at your wrestling pictures. My son's middle school season starts next week; he's just a peanut (around 85lbs). Your white balance always looks so good; in the picture above did you use flash?? To me it doesn't look like you did or if you did you use it so well that I can't tell. Looking forward to more.
Hey Tim, sweet shots! How about some shooting info...
I'm going to try my hand at wrestling this year @ Loy Norrix. The lighting in our gym is pretty good, so I'm trying to decide if flash is necessary. If I do decide to use my SB800's, how would you suggest I set them up? Even though I have a bracket, I would like to use off-camera.
John, I used 4 SB800s on Pocketwizards to get this gym to 1/250 f/2.8 and 1250 ISO (some 1600). Lights were mounted at top of gym bleachers and set for 1/4 power early and 1/2 later.
I never have problems with flash and wrestling, especially because I set the flash quite a ways away.
I use super clamps, brewer brackets and pocketwizards to trigger.
How many SBs you got? Got a SU800? You could easily do the ebay triggers, they work pretty reliably especially in a small gym...

Thx Stephanie. I used flash (see response to Oldguy). My son is a bloated () 172 lb senior, he'll end up season at 160
