Cranes from Bosque
I spent last week at Bosque del Apache.
This was my first time there and the experience was pretty cool.
We didn't have great blast offs in the morning and the activity at the Farm deck was minimal but anyway there were lots of opportunities to take nice pictures.
Here are my favorite crane images.
1. A pre-dawn take off
3. Morning fly-by at the pool
4. Taking off
5. Just after take off
6. Juvy flying by
7. Sensing the wind
8. A nice background
9. Landing on the cornfield
10. Landing late at the north pool
12. Another incoming group
13. After the sunset
14. Drinking water before going to sleep
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
Cheers,

Basking in the shadows of yesterday's triumphs'.
I was at Bosque last year and fell in love with the place. The light there is sublime. One can tell that your images were from Bosque with no ID. I'm disappointed that I can't get out there this year but I will definitely be returning next year.
I'm sorry you didn't get any of the great blast-offs because they are a sight.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
5 & 7 please me the most.:D
Thanks Dave.
Yes, that place is really special. The light and the backgrounds are something you will hardly find elsewhere. I must confess though that after a while I had crane overload and started looking for other subjects to shoot.
Regarding the blast-offs, we did have them but we never had the right combination of morning clouds and blast-off. The geese always took off late, when the intense red colors had faded away.
On the last day before it started raining we had some very nice clouds in the morning but the geese were not flying.
I was next to Art Morris' group which left before me without taking any pictures.
Here is probably the best shot I could get from a blast off on the first day:

Thanks Ric!
#5 is my favorite too.
I'm surprised to hear you spent a week there and only got one blast-off. I spent several days there last winter (hi Harry) and grew to expect a couple of them a day. Guess I got lucky?

Thanks joel.
What I meant to say is that there were blast-offs, but they were late and often unspectacular (small groups or with not so nice backgrounds).
I also learned that this year the Refuge management made a mistake growing the corn (it grew too small). As a result not so many geese and cranes congregated around the farm deck. Most were scattered in the back of those fields during the day so we had to concentrate in other areas.
They said it's going to be ok again next year.
