Card Pricing Problems

I set up a gallery so that a family can purchase cards from it. I do not want them purchasing the prints, only cards. I set all the other prices of pictures to 0 and priced the cards. Nothing is showing up.
How can I accomplish this???

You do have the pricing set correctly so that only cards are available.... but you don't have any cards created.
The 4x8 and 5x7 cards will only be available for sale if the image resolution matches the cards exactly, which means you have to have created cards for customers to purchase. They can't make their own just yet.
See here:
http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Make+your+own+photo+cards
That page gives the dimensions necessary if you want to create your own cards from scratch. If you use our Card Creator, the dimensions will be exact and cards will be available.
First, think of the card in terms of dimensions, it has a front and back, and it has an inside left and right, or top and bottom. The image that you buy as a 5x7 folded card needs to have these same four parts, otherwise the single image will be cropped into fourths and printed as all four sides.
You need to first create the card file, using our Card Creator. See here:
http://www.smugmug.com/help/photo-greeting-cards
After you have created the card file, it'll look something like this:
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/681748748_LC9hC-L.jpg
This is how it breaks down:
http://img.skitch.com/20091106-jjyubia2s5h2mmfrjxy9k35k8w.jpg
If you can imagine that the front and back sides get folded behind the inside top and bottom, that's how it's printed. And that's why the front image is upside down, if you can picture it being on the opposite side of the inside top, when you look at the card the front is upright, but when you open the card the front is upside down.
I hope this helps! Holler if you have any further trouble.
Take care,
Wendee

That has to all be done by me...the photographer?

In short, yes. Same frustration a lot of others have felt here.

Yep, for the time-being. But we have been gathering feedback and hope to make your life a whole lot easier with regards to cards with future releases.

Your customers can now create and purchase cards if you have set custom pricing on the portfolio or gallery level. It was a surprisingly difficult and complicated solution and we hope to improve it eventually, but it does work at the moment. Details will come soon on the release notes blog.
Very cool. I just logged out and tested this out and it looks/works great!
Edit: until I tried it with a password protected album. That didn't work. No photos are showing up in the card creator. Just FYI...

Oops! We'll get that fixed as soon as we can. Sorry.
Now if we could only use both photo labs in one gallery... But I hear that is impossible.
Either way, thank you for making this possible.clapclapclapclap

In the gallery I tested it out in, the pricing is set to Bay Photo - but I set the card pricing under EZ Prints in my portfolio pricing before selecting Bay Photo as my main lab. It still let me create cards as a logged out visitor and add them to my cart. It puts the visitor created cards in a separate gallery with EZ prints set as the lab.

Also, when they get to the create screen and can add it to their cart... it shows finishes that I have disabled. For example, I only have lustre finish enabled but it shows the other ones (blacked out) - I would rather they didn't even know there was an option...

Good feedback. We'll see if we can work that in to a future version of it.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

All non-passworded galleries should work fine, so if you see anything out of the ordinary, please let us know!

Both galleries I tried were not password protected.
Thanks for looking into it. You guys (and gals) are GREAT!

I tried this with a non-password protected gallery and it seemed to work as I expected it to. I know it's been mentioned that there is a problem with the password protected galleries right now...I just wanted to be specific about the issue I was experiencing.

Can you try this again? And if you're still seeing that, please let me know the galleries you're referring to? You can shoot an email to our help desk ATTN: Anne if you like.
Thanks!

Just tried it again with a non-password protected BUT hidden gallery. Did not work (www.candidartsphotography.com/jacobsenfamily).
And with a non-password protected and public gallery. Did not work either (http://www.candidartsphotography.com/Landscapes/Oregon/5721871_6ZwHy#724504069_pttx2).
Thanks for the help.

Worked for me in both of your galleries!

Thanks for checking.
I just tried it again in three different modes:
Logged in Owner View - Worked.
Logged in Visitor View - Did not work.
Logged out - Worked.
Thanks for the help. As long as it's working for me and customers, I guess it doesn't need to work in visitor view.

At a minimum the functionality should be IMHO:
- Pro uploads photos to a secure (or public) gallery and sets pricing for 4x8 and 5x7 product
- Client logs into said gallery and clicks Create Card setting the photo available for creating the card
- Client selects card format (either 4x8 or 5x7) and is presented with the template options from which client selects their choice.
- THE AVAILABLE PHOTOS SHOULD BE RESTRICTED TO THE GALLERY IN WHICH THE CREATE CARD FUNCTION WAS LAUNCHED! Th client should NOT have to peruse all of my galleries to locate the one they want!
- The client selects their image(s) and adjust the crop and position accordingly and clicks BUY NOW and proceeds to check out.
This is NOT a dig at SM Gurus but, COME ON, step back and look at the actual process which is very straight forward (I know the technology isn't) but do not release something that is half-way complete, with cumbersome workarounds and causes more frustration on everyone's part. This is the second holiday season LOST because we have an unusable product to give to our clients. SANTA please bring a working product to me for Christmas!

That's how the feature was designed and how it works, with the exception of the password-protected gallery bug mentioned earlier in the thread. Hopefully we'll have a fix out for that soon.
