one tough family shoot
Oh boy...this one makes me cringe. I had such high hopes.
This dear family is from my area but have been serving as missionaries in South Africa for the last four years. The two younger boys don't have many memories from the States, and this particular morning, they were missing the warmth of their African home. It was a very brisk October morning with a sharp breeze. So, when you add that to the fact that most boys are not interested in pictures, and that the younger two have some special needs...wow. I was not prepared for how tough this shoot ended up being. We wandered around a park and shot for only 15 minutes. These are my best three, cropped to 8x10.
All shot with the Canon 40D and 70-200 f/4 L IS. Only natural light...no time for anything else or switching lenses!
Would love some second opinions on colors, etc...

2 - going for a slightly overexposed background here
3 - really wish I had them farther away from the background here!

4 - and this one does make me smile...mom and dad were so patient and kind!
5 - I did a little head swap on dad...what do you think? #3 above or this one?
Comments and constructive critique always welcome!

Head swap looks fine to me. I'd use that one.
About the background, you could always try blurring it in PS. If you select the background very carefully and go to filter/blur/lens blur, you might be able to get that OOF background look.
