Marvellous 2mm long creatures are amazing to see up close, and of course the springtails are no exception.

I found this one clambering around a toadstool that has sprung up on the old wood on my bird table, so here is a series of shots as it made its way around.

All taken with the marumi ring flash, at either 100 ISO or 400 ISO, and at 1/200th sec@ f/16.

C&C as always allowed.

Thanks Brian, I enjoyed getting these.

The ringflash is OK, just lacing a bit of extra control compared to Canon or the Sigma branded.

My problem is more a lack of sharpness that you get (and I know you like f/8) but the quality of the lens is probably the main reason in conjunction with tubes.

Still, pretty pleased with what I manage.

Nothing wrong with the sigma 105 - if you are shooting at 2:1 with ext tubes you have a choice of sacrificing some DOF for sharpness and not go above about F9.

Beautiful images Paul! I just checked out your website, wanted to leave a message in the GB, but it wasn't accepted, don't know why.

Thanks Bob. Nothing clever about a springtail I suspect, at least not as we'd rate cleverness, lol...

    Cheers m8.

    Thanks Nina for your comment.

I don't know why you couldn't leave a comment, it's the first time I've known that to happen (not that I'd likely find out anyway, heheh).

Have another go now that your PC has been switched off since. You never know.
