The title got me for sure.
I expected a shot inside a "Hooters" restaurant---How obvious right?

I like your first try more--although I'm guessing this one is a technically better shot.

I like the owl photo better. The background in the giraffe photo distracts me. However both are very nice shots.

Dan, both are wonderful shots and strong contenders! But I have to give the edge to the owls thanks to that clever one-word caption you came up with.

I'm a fan of Hooters...wait...that didn't sound good...

Let me rephrase...

I really like the owl shot. Something about it...maybe the softness. I'm curious how you got that effect. I think the graduated blue sky blending into the background colors is what makes it pop for me. I have to agree with Stephanie about the background in the giraffe shot.

I vote giraffes! The interaction tells more of a story than the owls.
