shorten url?

Is there a way to shorten the URL so that it goes directly to the gallery when the gallery name is the same as the category name? I have a weddings gallery inside the weddings category. If I use the URL mydomain/weddings, it goes to the category page and then the user has to click on the gallery to enter the gallery.

Well, that makes the "shorter" URL not very short. I wish there was a way to ditch categories, so that I could have photos in a "top level" gallery, where the link was mydomain/gallery

As the vanity URL code is written, it won't work on a category URL. You could use a different name than the category that would take you right to the gallery from a http://www.mydomain.com/triptodisneyland type URL as long as triptodisneyland was not a category name.
